Europe is the world's second-smallest continen, larger than Australia or the 6th largest continent which includes 47 countries and other territories. Though it is conventionally known as a continent but it is not a continent, but part of a peninsula Euroasia which includes whole of the Europe and Asia. Europe forms the westernmost part of Euroasia. Europe is divided from Asia by Russia's Ural Mountains which are considered to be a geographical and tectonic landmark and the Caspian and Black Seas. To the north it is bordered by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean and to the south by the Mediterranean and Black Seas and the Caucasus. It is said that the name of the continent Europe has been derived from that of Europa, the daughter of Phoenix in Greek mythology, or from Ereb, a Phoenician word for “sunset.” Today, Europe is also being used to refer to the European Union (EU) and its members. With many variations in its land, it provides with great destinations for the visiting tourists. From the high Ural Mountains, plains to world famous beaches it has everything. One can enjoy the wonders and beauty of famous cities of Europe like Paris, the French Riviera, Monaco, Florence, Rome, Vatican City, Venice, Munich, London, and Amsterdam. |
